Regional Multiplication Coordinators

Meet our Regional Multiplication Coordinators! They provide local support, vision and direction to planters all over our district. They are church planters themselves with decades of experience between them.

Rob Paterson, Central OH

Rob Paterson, a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University and Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, has planted and pastored churches in Indiana and Michigan, and currently leads a church in Ohio that has seen six churches begin since it launched in 2002.  Rob likes nothing more than investing in the lives of people who are willing to multiply and make an exponential difference for the Kingdom of God.  Rob's main ministry passions are leading and coaching leaders as well as transformational communication.  He has been fortunate to participate in coaching and church planter assessments cross-denominationally and to speak at various camps, conferences, retreats, and churches around the world.

Here in Central Ohio, we are working hard to connect called and gifted church planters with financial, coaching, and training resources, to give every new ministry the best chance to flourish and impact the world.  While everyone needs resources, we are looking for people who are equally interested in being connected to the Converge family, committed to participating in a multiplication movement, and believe we are all better together!  If this describes you, feel free to send me an email and let’s see how God decides to use us together!

Derek is a graduate Taylor University and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He is married to Kim, his high-school sweetheart, and they have three children, Caleb, Chase, and Ayden. We would love to see dozens of more gospel-centered churches planted in the Lake Erie region in the coming years. Whether you are a church planter considering a new church or a pastor of an existing church exploring a new denominational affiliation, we’re praying for more kingdom-minded leaders like you. We would love for you to consider joining this movement and partnering with us in the effort to reach the Lake Erie region with the hope of Christ. Please feel free to contact me if I can help you along that journey.

Jeremy Copeland, Raleigh/Durham, VA, WV, SC, NC

Jeremy Copeland is the founding and lead pastor of STORYCHURCH in Durham, NC. Jeremy and his wife Kimi moved from Southern CA in August of 2008 with a lot of faith and not much else. Starting from scratch, and without a team, they put together a group of about 40 adults over the next 17 months. Meeting portable for the first four and a half years, they eventually purchased and renovated a small church building that is now home to STORYCHURCH.

Jeremy has worked with Converge as a regional coordinator for the last few years and has been part of the pre-assessment, assessment, training and coaching efforts of Converge church planting within the MidAtlantic region. Having felt lost, alone and confused in the early days of planting, his heart beats for church planters who feel the same. Locally, he recently launched PlantRDU - a friendship of church planters within the Raleigh-Durham region of NC.

Dan Peterson, Metro DC, MD, Philidelphia

Dan has served as Executive Minister for Converge MidAtlantic (Mideast Baptist Conference) since 1993.  During Dan’s 20 years of regional leadership, the District has grown from a small network of 30 churches, to da dynamic and diverse movement of 100 churches in a 7 state region.

Dan is a graduate of Bethel College and earned his Master of Divinity degree from Bethel Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN.  He also earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA.

Dan’s ministry experience includes planting and pastoring Southwest Hills Baptist Church in Beaverton, OR, and also planting two new churches in Houston, TX over a nine year period of time.

He is the devoted husband of Sandi, and the father of Anne Marie.  Sandi has four children:  Troy, Tracy, Adam and Monica.  Through the miracle of God’s grace, Dan and Sandi celebrate a family of five children and six grandchildren.  They live in Mansfield, OH, and serve our region and movement with joy and great energy.

Converge MidAtlantic Metro DC team of church planters, pastors, and churches is one of the most diverse in our entire Converge national movement!  We’ve grown to a team of 20 churches in the Baltimore/Washington area.  We’re reaching the African American community, the Vietnamese community, the Filipino community, the West African community, and churches that may seem to primarily Anglo, are touching the diverse people groups living in and around this dynamic region.

We would like to continue to plant at least one new church every year over the next 5 year period.   Specific areas and people groups we are hoping to target include:

  •  A Latino church plant in or around the Washington D.C. area
  •  A church plant in one of the growing suburbs of Northern VA
  •  A third Vietnamese church plant, possibly in the Baltimore area
  •  Other communities and people groups in this strategic region as God leads

We are also rapidly expanding its impact in the Philly/New Jersey area.  Grace Point in Newtown recently planted Restoration Church in Levittown.  This church plant is growing rapidly and effectively reaching its community.  Grace Church of Philly recently joined with our movement and is touching the urban communities of Philly in exciting ways!  The urban communities of Philly remain big on our heart.  Our Vietnamese Church in Philly is expanding in its impact.  And recently, Sozo Communities was birthed in the Penndel area of metro Philly.  We are sensing a lot of incredible momentum in this area.

As we think about the future for church planting in the Philly/New Jersey area, we’re praying and planning for some of the following:

  • A new church plant in Tom’s River New Jersey (a partnership with Bayside Chapel in Barnegat, NJ)
  •  Raising up additional church planters by hosting an assessment center in 2017
  •  Exploring additional church starts in the urban centers of Philly
  •  Fostering continued church parenting and possible multi-site expansion through our Philly/New Jersey area churches.
  •  Continuing to identify Vietnamese, Latino, and other cultural group leaders for potential planting in our region
